Today is one of the first days that feels like Fall. Which means I’m busting out all of the Autumn flavors: pumpkin, cinnamon, butternut squash and apples. In particular, I was craving a warm bowl of cinnamon applesauce.
But my dinner was already in the over and nearly done cooking. I didn’t have time to simmer the pot of apples. But I did have time to peel and core the apples, then toss them into my handy blender.
P.S. Does anyone else try to peel the entire apple so that the skin is in one long piece like a snake? It’s a fun game I play with myself. I don’t often accomplish this task, but I did today!
One more side note: did you know that eating too many apple seeds can be harmful? In fact, the seeds contain cyanide, a poison. But no worries, eating a few seeds here or there isn’t an issue. An adult would need to consume roughly 150 seeds to see the side effects of the poison.
Back to the blender. I tossed in my peeled and quartered apple. Some cinnamon, honey and a spritz of lemon juice were added. Them I simply blended on medium and used the plunger to incorporate all of the apples into the blade.
Allow to run for a few minutes, and ta-da: homemade applesauce in less than 5 minutes!
5 Minute Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce
Cinnamon applesauce is the perfect side dish when you're craving something warm and sweet. Don't have time to let apples boil on the stove? Making homemade applesauce in the blender takes less than 5 minutes but delivers the same delicious result!
Ingredients
- 5 apples, seeded, cored, quartered
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 Tablespoon agave nectar or honey
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Place all ingredients into the blender container.
- Mix on medium speed, using the tamper to press ingredients into the blade. Scrape down the sides if necessary. Repeat until the mixture begins to blend on it’s own.
- Blend on medium speed for 10-15 seconds for a chunky texture, or 30+ seconds for a smoother consistency.
Notes
Allow to blend for an extra 2 minutes if you want your applesauce to be warm.
Use a variety of apples, or whatever you have at home. My favorite is a mix of gala, honeycrisp and yellow apples.
