Amaretto Hot Chocolate

Germany is the quintessential place to be over christmas. I spent 8 weeks in Bavaria, Germany from Thanksgiving 2016 through late January 2017. It was as charming as you can imagine with the quaint architecture, holiday decorations in each village, Christmas markets, the Alps in the distance, and the fresh layers of pristine snow.

Except the “layer” of snow was about a foot deep! Brrrr. If you’re anything like me (aka cold-natured), you know how it feels to be cold all…day…long. I simply couldn’t add more layers or I’d look like a bundle of fluff who waddles instead of walks.

My brilliant husband suggested liquor. I should clarify that I’m not a big drinker. I enjoy a single drink once or twice a week, usually a glass of wine with dinner. So I was shocked by his idea. However, he meant well.

That evening he poured a little bit of amaretto in my hot chocolate. The hint of almond was delicious with the smooth chocolate flavor. And can you believe it? That single drink warmed me down to my toes!

Ever since then, on a cold winter evening I treat myself to an amaretto drink. Since the weather has just begun to change, I reinstated this tradition. Instead of buying premade hot chocolate packets, I decided to make my own in the Vitamix Aer container. There are only 3 ingredients. Dump and go. Come back in 6 minutes to perfectly frothy, not-too-sweet, hint of almond hot chocolate.

Amaretto Hot Chocolate

This three-ingredient hot chocolate will tickle your taste buds with flavor, fill your tummy with warm milk, and heat your body down to your toes.

Prep Time: 1 minute
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 7 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 oz Amaretto

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to Aer container. Gradually turn machine to variable 10. Blend for 6 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is steaming.

Notes

Worried that your chocolate chips won’t melt? The Vitamix naturally heats up as it blends, so the chocolate chips will melt perfectly into your milk to form a frothy hot chocolate!

Make sure to run it long enough (roughly 6 minutes) until you see steam on top.
