Homemade Hummus in less than 5 Minutes (in the Vitamix!)

Are you hunting for a quick snack the way a kitten preys on a toy mouse? You know you want it, but you’re kind of paralyzed about the what, when, where, and how.

Say bye bye to decision fatigue. This 5-minute homemade hummus is a healthy snack that will fill up your belly and fuel your body—plus one batch makes enough for a few more snack sessions.

Have five minutes to spare? Let’s get started.

First, drain two cans of chickpeas, saving the liquid. Dump the chickpeas and some of the liquid into your Vitamix container.

Next, add in tahini or sesame oil. (Want to make your own tahini? Brown ½ cup sesame seeds in a skillet over medium heat for five minutes, stirring continually. Then blend those toasted sesame seeds with a heaping teaspoon of olive oil until creamy. Don’t want to bother with tahini? Sesame oil is an adequate substitute.)

Then add olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt to the container.

Whirr your blender to life and use the plunger to push the ingredients into the blades. Keep scraping down the sides with the plunger and increasing the speed until the hummus is smooth, about two minutes.

Pour that yummy mixture onto a plate and top with more olive oil and cumin.

Enjoy with carrot sticks, sliced cucumber, stalks of celery, pita bread, or crackers. Save the leftovers in the fridge for a few days, or divide into portions and freeze for later.
