Citrus fruits, like oranges, provide Vitamin C and are known to boost your immune system. Flax seeds offer fiber and protein. Combine the two together for a fresh and nutty flavor–like this Orange Flax smoothie!

You can use orange juice or a real orange (minus the skin and seeds) for this recipe. We always recommend real food first, so aim for a fresh orange instead of orange juice from concentrate. 

Why not sneak a carrot into this recipe? Your kids will never know since it hardly adds any flavor and the smoothie is already orange! Plus it’s always good to consume extra veggies.

Banana and yogurt help thicken the ingredients into a creamy smoothie base, while the flax seeds contribute a slightly nutty flavor that makes this smoothie unique. Feel free to sub the yogurt with kefir if you are searching for an added boost of probiotics. Flax meal can be subbed for the flax seed as well, although it’s thought that whole flax seeds retain their nutrients better than milled flax.

Add all of the ingredients to your Vitamix and blend on high. Take a sip and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the burst of citrus blended with the wholesome nutty flavor of flax. Your body will be refueled with vitamins from the fruit and protein from the flax, making this a perfect start to your day or helpful afternoon pick-me-up.

  • ½ cup orange juice or 1 orange, peeled and deseeded
  • 1 banana
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled
  • ¼ cup yogurt or kefir
  • 2 Tbsp flax seeds


    1. Add all ingredients to Vitamix blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds until all ingredients are incorporated. Enjoy immediately.
