Specifications

The Vitamix 5200 stands 20.5” tall when the 64 oz container is sitting atop the motor base. The base itself measures 7.25″ wide, 8.75″ deep and weighs in at 10.5625 lbs. This unit has a 3-pronged power cord that measures a lengthy 6 feet, but can be wound up and stored beneath the motor base allowing you to leave out only as much as you need. The Vitamix 5200 is available in one of five colors (red, black, white, platinum, or brushed stainless).

5200 colors

The Vitamix 5200 model is available as part of several different configurations: standard, super, deluxe, or compact container packages. Each is slightly different, but every one comes with a Whole Food Recipes cookbook, a Getting Started guide, a Let’s Get Started DVD, and a tamper.

The Eastman Tritan™ container

Every Vitamix 5200 comes with a BPA-free Eastman Tritan™ copolyester container. The container includes improved sound damping features and sits a square rubber pad which helps cushion the container and dampen any vibration caused during operation. It is fitted with an ergonomic soft grip handle that makes pouring very easy. The lid for the Eastman Tritan jars is Vitamix’s patented easy-off 2-part vented lid and features a removable twist-off lid plug to prevent any spillage when adding ingredients during blending.

The Motor

The motor is a 2-peak horsepower, Swedish built motor specifically designed and developed for use in the Vitamix 5200 and is capable of spinning the blades up to 37,000 revolutions per minute. Though the motor is designed and manufactured in Sweden, the rest of the product is manufactured and assembled in the United States, in Cleveland, Ohio. The 5200 is fitted with a radial cooling fan for efficient cooling even at high speeds and this is complemented by Vitamix’s thermal protection system in order to prevent the motor overloading or burning out.

This video shows the amazing power of this motor when paired with the advanced design of the container and blades. Anything you put inside is sucked down and into the blades almost immediately.

The Controls

The Vitamix 5200 is controlled by manual switches and a speed dial. It does not have a touchpad or preprogrammed settings like some of the other high-performance blenders. The switches are made from ‘soft-touch’ rubber, which is an improvement since the earlier 5000 model, and the material is durable and easy to work with. You are able to control the speed with one switch and turn the machine on and off with the other. The center dial, also made from ‘soft-touch’ rubber controls the variable speed of the machine.

Whether you’re making whole juices or smoothies, soups or syrups, even ice-cream, it is best to start the blender on low and move up to higher speeds as it is running. It will be necessary to watch the blender until you have the consistency you are aiming for since this machine will not shut itself off automatically.

The Vitamix 5200 is available in the Certified Reconditioned Standard package which will save you $120 over the cost of purchasing a brand new 5200.

Our Conclusion – Vitamix 5200

The engineering and remarkable power allow you to get the most from almost any produce. You are able to create genuine whole juice from raw fruit and vegetables and release all of the nutrients from the pulp, fiber, skins, and cores.

The variable speed setting means that not only can you make juices and smoothies you can mix ice-cream and chop salsas on the low settings and heated soups and fondues on full power.

The Vitamix 5200‘s power, durability and 7-year warranty makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking to get started with their first high-performance blender.

  1. Got mine (VM103 CIA version in stainless steel) from Seattle Goodwill for 10 bucks a part (the piece that connects the carafe to the base) which I got for another 10 bucks and after installing the part it is now working like a champ (I don’t think it was used very much previously.

  2. I purchased my refurbished Vitamix 5200 about a month ago. Every time I try to make a frozen smoothie my machine ends up turing off midway and I have to wait 45 minutes-1 hour to restart. I will tell you the order of my ingredients and the speeds I am using in hopes that you can give me advice. I put a good amount of almond milk, power greens, chia seeds and protein powder in first and mix it all together beginning on 1 and gradually going up to 5. Then I gradually add a banana, frozen pineapple, blueberries and then a mixture of frozen fruits such as mango, strawberries, raspberries, etc. I am attempting to mix this while again going from speed 1-5. My machine is shutting off every time. Can you please help me with what I am doing wrong? Thank you so much!

  3. since the 5200 has so power as in (up to 37000 RPM), can i buy one, break it down and use the motor for experiment? can i use it like a main motor in the construction of a powerful RC helicopter like (Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe) the crane.

    Hi ,
I really wanna buy vitamix 5200/7500 as soon as I can
Our family of three with a little one being 9 months now have turned vegan and moving towards raw food ,and I feel inspired to buy vitamix after reading so many positive reviews .
One issue is I am working in Muscat , in Oman can I get it delivered here with additional charges .

  6. The 5200 has served me well for the past 10 years, but now I’m ready to upgrade and buy a Vitamix 7500. These blenders are great and I’m looking forward to many more years of blending things with my new one!

  7. I received my brand new VITAMIX as a gift. Problem, it is too high when I use the tamper. Would have preferred the low profile 640z container. I have no lower counter top. How can I remedy this

    1. Adam @ BlenderReviews.us

Joan, the classic shaped containers sold with the 5200 are very tall, but unfortunately, the newer, low profile 64oz container used on the 7500 model will not work properly on the older models due to some changes in the engineering.

My recommendation, if you’d like to keep everything on the countertop, would be to purchase one of the smaller containers, like the 48 ounce container to use instead. This container is built for the classic models, so will work perfectly.

  8. I can’t believe how much we use our Vitamix. I had a “good” blender before, but it was never something I wanted to take out and use. I also had a juicer. And a food processor. I hate things on my countertops, but the 5200 base is welcome to sit there forever. I use it at least 3 times a week if not 4 and I’ve had it for several months now. I am a little jealous of the new to do container on the new model. I think Vitamix should make an add on container compatible with the older models. If I could wash my to go container the way I wash my vitamix now…. I’d use it 7 days a week!

    1. Adam @ BlenderReviews.us

This is so awesome! Keeping it on your countertop definitely means you’ll be using it more. :)

Great comment about the smaller container! It’s something a lot of people have asked for, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Vitamix already has something in the works ;)

  9. Powerful Pulverizer! Decreases everything to a cellular level which means it enters the cells, keeps the juices and bulk in and it heals the cells. Smoothies are thick in this blender and does not separate the bulk.

Never broke and I have had it for over 20 yrs! Warranty is great too!

A juicer separates the bulk when you need massive amounts of say carrot juice to heal your body. You would not want all the bulk because you need massive amounts of an item. The bulk can be used in soups, vegan patties, etc. If you cannot find anything at all to use the bulk—it can be used in pet foods or the garden which would use the nutrients to nourish and correct your soil to enrich your garden and vegetables in the summer.

You cannot go wrong with a Vitamix and it will last forever! Powerful!

  10. The 5200 is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen! I use it at least once a day, every day of the week and it never lets me down. I’m finally thinking that it is time to upgrade and pass down my old Vitamix to my son in college.

  11. Buying my 5200 was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Use it every day for the past 6 years and it’s still works like it did the day I bought it.
