Blender Wassail

Here we go a-wassailing, among the leaves so green. Here we come a-wandering, so fairly to be seen.”

Like the song lyrics say, it’s the time of year to “go a-wassailing.” In case you’re wondering, a-wassailing is when you go from house to house singing Christmas carols. To wassail is to indulge in plentiful amounts of alcohol, namely spiked wassail, while you enjoy yourself in a lively manner.

Does that sound like your kind of Christmas party? Are you ready to gather with your loved ones and celebrate? Is it time to harmonize Christmas carols on the doorsteps of your neighbors? If so, then you need to concoct a batch of wassail for the festivities.

The traditional recipe calls for the ingredients to simmer on the stove, but your convenient Vitamix blender reduces cooking time to only 5 minutes. (Perfect for that evening when you’re supposed to report for caroling in a few minutes, or when you need to bring a seasonal drink to the Christmas party.)

Pour apple juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and lemon juice into the wet blade container. Peach, mango, or tropical juice would make an excellent addition as well. Like all holiday beverages, cinnamon and cloves are a necessary addition. If you enjoy nutmeg, add a dash of that into the blender cup. If you want to make this alcoholic, add in the alcohol of your choice before blending.

Gradually turn the Vitamix to high and run for 5 minutes, blending the ingredients and heating up the wassail at the same time.

When it’s done, you’ll have a steaming batch of homemade wassail, perfect for holding in a warm mug while you carol or to sip as you revel in the activities of your joyous Christmas party. There are so many things that make this season brim with spirit, and wassail is one of them!
